Welcome to my Career Portfolio!
I am Kent Merzlock, a
current student at Idaho State University. I was born and raised in Pocatello and
into a family including my parents and their nine
children. I grew up playing various sports
including baseball, basketball, and football and find
that when I'm not busy with school and work, my free
time involves one of those three sports. I also
enjoy music and have played parts in “Guys and Dolls”
and “Oklahoma”.
I've found that the greatest satisfaction
in my life comes from getting an education and watching
my siblings succeed and raise their children. My
excitement to work is motivated by the desire to have a
family of my own in the near future.
When I was 15 years old, I was offered my first job
moving irrigation pipe for a local farmer. From
there I worked for several companies including K & L
Kembrite doing fire and flood restoration work. I
was also assigned to a cleaning crew within the company
and did janitorial work for local banks and businesses.
From there on I went to work for other companies
including a pizza shop, a lawn and sprinkler business,
and two real estate appraisal companies. Each of
my jobs has taught me different skills and has
contributed to my desire gain an education and a greater
understanding of the world.
I was introduced to my true passion in high school
during an economics class. Our class enrolled in a
stock market simulation contest where I learned the
basics of trading securities. I won the investment
contest and from then on engulfed myself in the finer
details of trading and investments. In 2007, I was
introduced to the foreign exchange market. I was
intrigued by the idea of using a margin account to
leverage large sums of money with only a small amount of
capital. I am actively involved in trading
currencies and securities. I have a desire to
learn how to manage stock options.
I am now enrolled in college at Idaho State University
and taking classes to fulfill a bachelor's degree in
business finance with a minor in Spanish. I have
plans to attend graduate school and consider learning a
lifelong pastime. I have many heroes and
role models including Albert Einstein who once said,
"The only source of knowledge is experience." I
love meeting and working with new people. College
has given my the opportunity to experience this and
taught me the demands of a changing business world.
